In School Education Department opening of schools being classified in four categories

a) Opening of Primary Schools.

In the hill region new Primary School is opened if there is no access to Primary Education within a 1km and the population of served area is above 200. For Plain region distance is 1.5km and population above 300.

b) Opening of Upper Primary Schools (Junior High School)

A Junior High school is opened between the two primary schools and if there is no access within the 3km to junior high school classes.

c) Opening of new High School /Upgradation of Junior High School

If there is no access to Junior High School classes then a new High School is opened otherwise the upgradation of existing Junior High School is done.

The Norms of opening a High school are as Follows

1.The population of served area morethan 8000.

2.The minimum strength of class 6-8th should be 85.

3.Estimated strength of class 9th should be above 25.

4.If there is no High School/Inter college within 10 km

5.Free land and building should be avilable

d) Upgradation of High School to Intermediate College

The norms are as follows.

1.The population of served area morethan 8000.

2.The minimum strength of class 6-10 th should be 150.

3.Estimated strength of class 11 th should be above 25.

4.If there is no Inter college within 10 km.

5.Free land and building should be avilable.

6.The first batch of Highschool examination had appeared five years ago .

7.The result of proposed school should be more than 50% since last 3 years.
