IT Plan of Department of Secondary Education:

1 The aim of education in 21st Century is being redefined. It is not only for employment generation but also to create a better world through understanding and development of human qualities.

2 Information and communication technology which is a by-product of science and technology explosion has revolutionized the world of learning.

3 It is very essential to integrate the IT with education in order to have the advantage of edge education.

4 In the context of Uttarakhand with special reference to geographical location of schools in interior rural areas, inadequate transport and communication facilities make it imperative to take advantage of IT, to provide accessibility of quality education to every child.

Objective of ICT Plan

1 To integrate information technology with schooling and education to empower learners to acquire skills, knowledge and understanding.

2 Shift emphasis of learning method from acquiring information to constructing knowledge with their own experience to enable them to become autonomous learners.

3 Make school education relevant to changing nature of workplaces.

4 Enabling students to access, collate and organize information from different sources in the world and encourage on-line learning.

5 Facilitate the teachers and the students to effectively carry on classroom teaching learning process.

Thrust on quality improvement

The current concept of education is to enable the child to construct and connect life outside the school, eliminating rote methods of learning, enriching the curriculum to go beyond text-books, and making examination more flexible. Integration of computer technology in education would enhance the above abilities among children and develop the quality of learning by facilitating the child to 'Learn to Learn' and 'How to learn'.

1 ICT as an instrument for professional development of teachers.

2 ICT enables the teacher to consistently and constantly, empower with the extending horizons of subject knowledge, teaching methodology and evaluation techniques.

3 While the computer can not replace the teacher, it enables him to effectively transact teaching learning process by;

i) Activising the classroom through participation, interaction and group learning.

ii) Replaces traditional learning environment through thinking, reasoning, exploration and problem solving.

iii) Computer aided teaching will bring a paradigm shift in classroom transaction enhancing high aptitude among learners so as to positively effect the students achievements.

iv) Enabling the teachers to innovate experiment and develop local content to improve the skills and motivation of the students.

Targets

In order to effectively implement the integration of computer in educational process the department has targeted to computerize all the ...1720... schools in the State under the 'Aarohi Programme' by installing 5 – 6 computers in every school.

The department intends to provide computers and connectivity to all the schools with in a couple of years.

TEACHERS TRAINING

Simultaneously efforts are made to train the teachers with the assistance of MICROSOFT and INTEL.

Regular Teachers Training Programmes are organized in all the DIETs and MICROSOFT Academy with the assistance of these institutions.

Teachers Students Portal:

In order to provide a plat-form for professional development needs of teaching community by making available pace teaching practice and resources, and providing comprehensive management system to all the stake holders namely Teachers, namely Teachers, Students, Parents ad Officials of Education Department to interact continuously, a teacher student portal is being developed. The said portal will provide comprehensive information about the schools, students, curriculum, staff and other areas of educational administration. It will also provide the scope for accelerating process of teaching learning process and improve the quality of academics.

e-Class Project –

e-Class projects by developing IT enabled course and curriculum in Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics for the classes of IX – XII in the state. 75 hours of course content will be developed in each subject from IX to XII classes. This Software will facilitate the effective teaching learning process in the class room and would also enable students for self learning.
